The tale of the girl who did not fall to her knees.

The street was almost empty, I walked through the market street, delighting every smell, every scent that the spices kept.
Suddenly, four notes of trumpets broke the order and my serenity.
The royal court walked down the avenue, traders left their shops and the crowd pushed me to the retinue.
A large entourage of soldiers preceded the courtship and behind, as baroque as always, the royal carriage.
At the arrival  we had to kneel, to display a bow of belonging, however, for a moment, I hesitated and refused to belong to anyone.

"You must prostrate" told me a familiar voice.

However, I kept to my guns and remained intact, my face not even showed a single emotion.

Then the royal carriage stopped in front of me. I must be differentiated from the crowd , since I only saw before me a pile of bowed heads .
I struggled between run or to face facts. The carriage door was then opened and led me inside.
An oval interior, red leather seats and the selfsame princess in front of me.

"You must prostrate" said with a smile on his face.

"Why?" I answered
"You must prostrate or I will prostrate you" she repeated nodding.

I did not want keep living like this I did not want to belong to something, I did not want to belong to anyone.
Then the door was opened again and the princess pushed me back to the previous site. The courtship marched until disappear over the horizon, and I returned to the market square, I stopped feeling the same calm, now I only heard praises to the princess, and I did not understand why.
Without realizing the push had caused me a bruise on the back. It must be something like a warning. But I was not going to prostrate to anyone.
When I got home I found a message on the door, closed with the royal seal. A shiver ran through my body. Indeed, an order of decapitation.
From then until the summon neighbors and acquaintances whispered in my way, I saw more backs than faces a season , and all because not kneeling.

It arrived the appointed day, at that time friends had became into enemies, and a fake fame had spread word of mouth.

The show did not last long, they read a false history of crimes not committed and the executioner, after sharpening his ax came smiling to me, I had already seen that smile before in an oval interior, on red leather seats.

And so I perished, prostrated.

Blessed blue blood, blessed bad blood that runs through the veins of very few and it is enough to govern a country full of heads who prostrate in their path . Evil tongues will say that anarchy can not be carried out, that her bastard children must be faulted and forced to perish. However, in a parallel world chaos reigns, you do not need to justify your steps, nor bowing down to anyone, you do not need to pretend belonging to anyone and courtships do not tour the wide avenues.
I return there every day closing my eyes, I dive in its broad seas and I escape from the oppressive reality.

  1. wow, that was an amazing read. I just learnt being unique no matter how out of place or dangerous it might seem is the ultimate fulfillment.

  2. You have such a beautiful way of writing! It really reminds me of the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson. You should check it out :)

Familia.
